About

Clay artist Bruce Weiner creates one-of-a-kind and custom mosaics, tiles, and pottery. He takes commissions on small and large-scale mosaics.

Inspired by natural processes witnessed both in the environment and in ceramic-making, each piece exemplifies images and textures born of these natural phenomena. No two clay pieces are the same.

Bruce’s ceramic work is heavily influenced by his Navy experience in East and Southeast Asia, particularly Taiwan and Hong Kong, where he had the opportunity to study folk art and wood carving.

Bruce Weiner has worked as an art teacher and clay artist in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania for almost 40 years. He received his master’s degree from Temple University Tyler School of Art. He also studied sculpture at the Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and worked as an apprentice at the Moravian Tile Works in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

His mosaics and tiles are crafted mostly from terra cotta clay and hand glazed in cobalt blue and copper-chrome green.

Artist’s Statement

My work is defined by my observations of how forces in nature shape the environment. It is intriguing to me how seemingly random and sometimes subtle events craft the Earth’s crust to create works of infinite beauty.

For me it is the ceramic processes that translate these natural phenomena into a working language. The more this language is understood, the more it can be used to express artistic vision.

In nature, the peaks of a mountain range, snowflakes in a storm, or trees in a forest at first glance appear to be identical, but upon closer scrutiny, each has its own unique character due to variations in the process.

My goal is to create works that speak to these differences.
I want them to become primarily a physical record of the forces and materials that I use to express my artistic vision.
